Self-Evaluation...
One thing that I have come to value during my teaching practice is self-evaluation. Self-evaluation is very important part of every lesson even though it typically takes place after the lesson is over. It requires me to think back on my lesson and consider the following questions:
- What went well and why?
- What problem did I experience?
- What could I have done differently?
- What have I learnt from the experience that will help me in the future?
Sometimes, in rush of teaching, I do get tempted to skip my self-evaluation. However I have come to realise that self-evaluation is a powerful tool that will help me become a better teacher. Reflecting and evaluating my teaching after a lesson is over will give me insights that may save me lots of trouble later. Even a few brief evaluative notes on a lesson plan will help me immensely the next time I teach that lesson.
I am often surprised by how much I forget if I do not write my ideas down and end up making the same mistakes over and over again. However, I am always surprised at how a few minutes of reflective writing help me discover things I would have otherwise not noticed.
Hence evaluating my teaching regularly will definitely help me develop into a better teacher.
Keep evaluating my teaching practice! way to go..
