It is decided....Action research here I come...

Diary 17/02/2014

After doing a lot of thinking and researching, finally I have  decided what I want to do for my Action research.  The topic for my action research is going to be collaborative learning.  It is not going to be as easy as it sound, the idea is great but how to go on about it is another thing.

I am thinking of thinking of answering this question :what happens to students learning in my class when use collaborative learning approach

I am actually looking forward to this.

It is a busy life being a teacher....

Self-Evaluation...

One thing that I have come to value during my teaching practice is self-evaluation. Self-evaluation is very important part of every lesson even though it typically takes place after the lesson is over. It requires me to think back on my lesson and consider the following questions:

  • What went well and why?
  • What problem did I experience?
  • What could I have done differently?
  • What have I learnt from the experience that will help me in the future?

Sometimes, in rush of teaching, I do get tempted to skip my self-evaluation. However I have come to realise that self-evaluation is a powerful tool that will help me become a better teacher. Reflecting and evaluating my teaching after a lesson is over will give me insights that may save me lots of trouble later. Even a few brief evaluative notes  on a lesson plan will help me immensely the next time I teach that lesson.

I am often surprised by how much I forget if I do not write my ideas down and end up making the same mistakes over and over again. However, I am always surprised at how a few minutes of reflective writing help me discover things I would have otherwise not noticed.

Hence evaluating my teaching regularly will definitely help me develop into a better teacher.

Keep evaluating my teaching practice! way to go..

So, A lot of things have happened...

This past week I was introduced to three new modules; Contemporary issues, Action Research and Teaching inclusively and Reflecting on practice.

It is going to be  very busy over the coming few weeks.

In contemporary issues I ma required to produce a poster and a write a report on a contemporary issue of my choice. I have an idea of what I want to do but I still  haven't made up my mind yet, time is running out too. I am thinking of doing something about  MDGs goal 3. MDGs stand for Millennium development goals. MDGs are eight international goals that were established following the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000.

Therefore  this will mean looking at the progress of goal 3, has the world managed to provide gender equal opportunities.

I am also required to carry out an Action research in my own placement. Choosing a topic is quite difficult. I am thinking of implementing peer assessment or group work in my classroom. This is going to be so challenging! Although it is going to be difficult, I am actually looking forward to it.
